stygian
deep bass and virtuous contemporary juggling

Stygian is a contemporary circus piece where the juggler's stilted virtuosity is intertwined with a darkly beautiful live soundscape. Stygian is an abstract, psychological journey into obsession, devotion and the limits of control. Objects, the body and the vibration of the bass draw the audience into a murky timeline, at the end of which balance may be found, at least momentarily.

Stygian refers to the mythical river Styx, which in Greek mythology represents the boundary between the afterlife and the world of the living. However, Stygian does not draw its inspiration from Greek mythology, but from the darkness and liminal nature of the river Styx.

wounding the world
thought provoking contemporary dance

Wounding the World is a solo dance piece by Kuhmalahti-born Leevi Rauhalahti, which explores gender, power and violence through movement. The piece constructs powerful and changing images of the body on stage, searching for its place in the world, free from established roles and norms.

The piece explores phallocentrism through movement from the perspective of a non-binary conscientious objector, and how the patriarchal world needs violence to rule.

The piece is Rauhalahti's suggestion to everyone to challenge preconceived notions of gender and violence.
